DCI George Kinoti Resigns, President Ruto Nominates New IG

Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo Japhet Koome in past event

Commandant of the National Police Service College, Kiganjo Japhet Koome was nominated by President William Ruto into the role of the Inspector General of Police to replace Hillary Mutyambai who proceeded on terminal leave, and thus vacating his position.

While announcing the nomination of the new Inspector General of Police, the President also informed the public that the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti had handed in his resignation from the post.

The appointment of the new IG and the resignation of the DCI boss comes with no surprise with President Ruto voicing his concerns with the then Inspector of Police Hillary Mutyambai during the meeting with the delegation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) at Karen on 30th June 2022, terming him "the most incompetent Inspector General of the Police".

DCI boss George Kinoti was also on the receiving end of President Ruto's attack while the President was campaigning in July. The President then accused George Kinoti of interfering with the work of IEBC besides failing in his mandate. The President made it clear that once he took over the leadership of this country, the DCI will be headed by a different person.
