President William Ruto Announces the Long-Awaited Cabinet

President William Ruto on Tuesday afternoon announced his new cabinet featuring Musalia Mudavadi as the Prime Cabinet Secretary with close allies David Chirchir and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen being announced in the powerful dockets of Energy and Roads respectively.

Professor Kithure Kindiki, a close ally to President William Ruto and who was among the frontrunners in deputizing the current President in the August election was appointed to ministry of Interior and National Administration which had previously been held by Dr. Fred Matiang'i in the previous administration.

Other appointments included Njuguna Ndung'u to the National Treasury and Planning and Aisha Jumwa to the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action. Aden Duale, the Garissa Township MP was appointed into the Defence ministry with Alice Wahome being appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation. 

Former Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua was appointed into the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Moses Kuria appointed Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Investment and Industry with Rebecca Miano who was serving as the Managing Director and CEO of KenGen by the time of appointed handed the ministry of EAC, ASAL and Regional Development. 

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator was appointed as Cabinet Minister for Roads and Transport, Soipan Tuya appointed into the Environment and Forestry ministry, Zacharia Mwangi Njeru appointed to the Lands and Housing ministry with Peninah Malonza being appointed Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Cabinet Secretary.

Former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi who lost his gubernatorial bid to Kawira Mwangaza was appointed Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary.

Susan Nakhumicha Wafula was appointed the Health Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo appointed Communication Cabinet Secretary with David Chirchir being appointed in the role he once held in the Jubilee administration, Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum.

Ababu Namwamba was handed the Sports and Youth Affairs ministry, Simon Chelugui appointed Cooperatives and MSMEs with Salim Mvurya appointed into the Mining ministry. Florence Bore was handed the Labour ministry.

Other notable appointments were Harriet Chigai as the advisor on women's rights, Monica Juma as National Security advisor with Justin Muturi being appointed the Attorney General. Mercy Wanjau was appointed as the Secretary to the Cabinet.

The names are expected to be handed to the Parliament for vetting and approval. 

With the coalition under which the President was elected controlling the numbers in the Parliament, it is expected that the appointments will be confirmed.
