Kylian Mbappe has been left ruing his decision to extend his contract with PSG barely months after extending his contract with the club for an additional three years.

The contract extension came as a surprise to many who had expected the world cup winner to leave for Real Madrid in the summer, having tried to force a move to the Champions League holders in the summer of 2021 to no avail.

Even with a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid in place, much like what his French counterpart Antoine Griezmann who snubbed the Barcelona move in 2018 did, Mbappe held a press conference to announce his extension with PSG citing their "sporting project" as the reason for his extension rather than leave for free to the most successful club in Europe.

He revealed that he had spoken with Florentino Perez, Real Madrid's club President before the press conference that let the world know of his extension.

In another interview, he revealed that the President of France Emmanuel Macron had helped sway him towards extending with PSG.

Barely five months into the extension, reports have emerged of Mbappe's unhappiness with PSG with renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that the World Cup winner wanted to leave the club "as soon as possible".

According to the Guardian, the French star was not impressed with PSG's transfer business, as well as the number 9 role he played in the team instead of his preferred position off the left. The club is not ready to let him leave in January of 2023 though.

The regret may be coming a little too late with his preferred suitors backing out of signing him.

Reports have emerged of Real Madrid's lack of interest in reigniting their longstanding interest in Mbappe with the club said to be focusing on other targets.

Considering that the club could have gotten the player on a free transfer in the summer, and he chose to stay at PSG, the President may feel that Kylian has not done enough to wear the famous Real Madrid jersey. Kylian will have to find a way of convincing the club to spend money on his transfer which is not an easy feat.

Should Real Madrid move in for Kylian if he becomes available in January? Do you think Kylian Mbappe is justified in wanting a move now? Do you think Real Madrid fans will still be happy with Mbappe's signing after snubbing them in the summer? Let is us know in the comment below.
